A loan sheep grazing near an electricity pylon on the common land of Halkyn Mountain.

The mountain is an area of upland mostly consisting of common land, villages and small holdings. Since Roman times right up to the 1970’s the area has been extensively mined for its rich veins of lead ore.

Today the last mine is now closed, leaving a vast area of common land that is regularly utilised by walkers.
