Celebration of Chester

The ‘A Celebration of Chester’ statue stands between the cities town hall and cathedral in Town Hall square.

The statue symbolising Thnaksgiving, Protection and Industry by the sculptor Stephen Broadbent was erected in the square in 1990.

Chester Town Hall was opened in 1869 by the Prince of Wales who later became King Edward VII. The building was designed and built by the architct W H Lynn after his design was chosen from a competition. Lynn sought inspiration from the architecture of the prosperous market town of Bruge and thus modelled his Chester Town Hall on the town hall of the Belgium city.
